D.C. Day 5-Moral, if Jennie wants a picture it is ok to break the rules:)

Some of you may not know the saga behind my attempts to get Cheryl in a trick shot of the Washington Monument.  I wanted her to touch the top with her fingers.  I had the perfect shot lined up in the grass by the World War II Monument but Jennie said we shouldn't be on the grass since there was a fence.  I would like the record to state that there was NO SIGN!!!   So I moved and tried again and again but Cheryl was not doing what I needed her to do so I gave up and took this picture instead.
This was not what I was wanting.  The debate in the rental had most everyone taking...ok everyone but me taking Cheryl's side.   What I wanted was this...

We had an amazing tour of the Capitol Building today.  We actually met Mr. Lucas and then some interns took us around to see the building.  There was a grumpy old man yelling at me in the security line but I guess in there they do not have time to be nice and gentle(or GE).

We saw where the first corner stone was laid.

We stood in the exact center of the city.
We saw the old Supreme Court

Lots of beautiful lights, and art work along the way.

Then walked up into the Rotunda, wow is what went through my mind, so elegant and big, and well just amazing.

Then next room was Statuary Hall, each state is asked to give two statues to the Capitol to represent the state, we have Will Rogers and Sequoyah.  Our guide told us that at first she was disappointed to find that Will Rogers is kind of off out of sight from the Statuary Hall, like he was being left out, but she learned that the pose he is in looks down on the senate as they place their votes.  Also, that they touch his foot for good luck.  The area where the statue is was closed.  Posted even, no guests, do not enter, because they were voting today.  Jennie goes to get a picture of it anyway:)   I do not have that picture because I was following the rules!

We got to see the gallery in session, not sure what to make of that.  It was very empty and nobody down there seemed to be listening to anyone else present.  They got 1 minute to talk then someone else would come up.  After that we ate and walked around to see more in the visitor center. Then made our way to the U.S. Botanical Gardens, it was a muggy day and we did not last long in there.

After that we wandered around then went back to the house.  The rest of the family is eating out someplace fishy, which I don't do so I am glad they are able to go have a meal they enjoy.  I am happy, resting, blogging and relaxing around the house.  Remember this trip is only just begun for three of us!   Below are some random pictures of the rest of the day.

  1. Huh, I had also always imagined others at least halfway listening to someone speaking on the floor. They do so much of their talking to each other in committees and in party meetings now though...interesting.

Love the shot you got of the dragonfly!
