Portland day 2-Laundry day, Light Houses, rain

I was telling Jennie in the car on the way up the coast that I have always loved the coast of Maine.  It is different from most coastal areas in the fact that there is not a lot of beach.  You can find beach areas but most of it is rocks and water.  Something about the way the ocean meets the earth?  Not sure how to put it into words really.  It is so amazing and another one of those things that is hard to capture, because there is a sound, sight, and smell to it.  I have missed it so much that today felt a bit like coming home!   I will always have a bit of the East Coast in me, I am an Okie but a bit of the places I have lived still live inside me.  I could spend the whole summer doing the things we did today(ok, not the laundry part).

We drove to a laundry mat and did three loads of laundry.  Traveling this long is a bit tricky.  We had joked about needing to send our coats back in the mail since we are needing space in the car but it is a good thing we had them today.

We finished up and drove to Portland Head Light, we were hungry so we didn't stop until we found a little road side place and ate.  Then we went to Two Lights park.  It began to rain. Jennie said "Don't send back the coats yet!"  It was chilly, and things began to get foggy and misty.  It was kind of neat to see the lighthouses working in the way they were supposed to.  We walked along a small beach and collected a few shells and I even found a piece of sea glass!   Then we headed back to another park and it was really coming down.  Jennie stayed in the car while Cheryl and I walked all over the park taking pictures of the ocean, rocks and each other.  After we drove to Portland Head Light again to take pictures of it in the rain.  It was pretty darn cold.  It is kind of neat to know that at home its in the upper 90's and here we are in the lower 50's!

It was an awesome day that we are going to wrap up with some Portland Pie Company Pizza here in a bit.  I think I am caught up on posts now as well.

  1. Such beautiful pictures!

I 100% understand about the places you have lived, however briefly, becoming a part of you. Brendon was born, and spent his first year in Pacific Grove, California. We loved that town and area so much that we found a local artist who made a painting of the beach we visited often, and have it hanging in our living room : )
