Ok, it is not a very clever title but it is all I have at 1am NYC time!
Today we left the hotel in Philly and went to the Betsy Ross house. Very neat to see her house and grave. Then we walked to see Ben Franklin's grave. That was by far a fun stop! Wandering around the cemetery and seeing 5 different signers of our Declaration of Independence too. We narrowly got in and out before a wicked storm came rolling in. We used my new favorite application, "Uber" to get a car and were back in the hotel fast as can be. Then we ate lunch and headed to NYC.
What should have been about 2 hour drive turned into a much longer experience! We had rented an apartment here and while it was clean, it was not going to work for us and we knew that pretty fast! First off they had two window units for ac and one was in the front and one was in the back of the house. Second, the couch and love seat were for the most part maybe 2 inches off the floor, which for those of us like us was just not going to work. Then we went to Jennies room! We wish we would have taken pictures, for one thing it was tiny(no problem) but it was probably a closet, no windows, no air, nada. Then the bed....it was maybe 1 or 2 inches of the ground. We thought about it...and decided to call it a wash. We lost some money in the deal but we couldn't have made it there.
Then the hunt was for a new place to stay at about 545pm-This was hard but I had my trusty friend Dru working to help us out in finding a new place to stay. We booked one that would have been just fine and been in budget for us. We drove there, and nope, no reservations for us and they say they had been sold out for 2 hours. I had earlier found a place that I felt would work in Manhattan, but it was a lot of money. Still we didn't do it. We instead drove around to no less than 10 hotels asking/begging for a room. Nothing. So I called back the place in Manhattan, and booked a room for a couple of nights just so we could figure out what to do next. I clearly asked the man if he was sure we had a room and we were good to go. Yes yes we were.
So off we went to Manhattan, I didn't really want to drive in the city, but that is what happened anyways. We arrive and walk in and the man taking care of us was incredibly rude. I think the lady that was working saw the panic in my eyes when he said no reservation for you. She took over and helped. At one point I said, please just tell me you have a room for the two nights. She did and she said she would take good care of us. And that she did. We are in a suite overlooking central park! We even have queen beds! So in the morning(late morning) when things are more clear in all of our heads we will figure out our next steps, but we do have a room for two nights:) YIPEE. Wish me luck moving the parked car tomorrow!
I'm so sorry your experience finding a place to stay was stressful, and am glad someone finally took care of you all!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your visit to Ben Franklin's grave!
